The hotel Silken Berlaymont likes to share its willingness to protect the environment with her guests, suppliers and employees.  The hotel is concerned about our “Bleu Planet” and its future and likes to inform its guests about this through photography, special “Green” offers, website and newsletters.

The Art of the 21 century, photography, is fully integrated in the architecture and design of the hotel.  Through photography and with the help of the “Belgian Association of Professional Photographers”, the hotel organized a “Green” photo exhibition, this exhibition perfectly combines the hotels objective to achieve an ECO label certification and the central theme of our hotel, the Art of Photography.

Besides this exhibition, the hotel does more.  All the hotels suppliers were contacted to found out how packaging waste can be reduced or perfected. Less waste, helps not only the hotel in reducing their “waste dump”, but also its suppliers.  We are also buying locally, this in order to save fuel for transporting the goods.
All employees are involved in a better sorting-system, better sorting and recycling is our motto.

All office materials as pens, pencils, paper, etc… are made out of recycled materials.  All plastic has been removed and replaced by glass (ex. plastic bottles of water in our meeting rooms are now glass bottles) and a recupel container has been installed for the personnel.  All staff of the hotel is able to leave his/her broken small electronic device in this container.
All regular light bulbs are replaced by incandescent light bulbs; these bulbs use 60% less energy.
We installed low flow showerheads, this to use less warm water, this in order to use less energy to heat the water.  Very shortly after the installation, we could already experience the difference.  By the end of this year, we shall save a total amount of water that equals 4 Olympic swimming pools.

A lot of these measures effect in a great energy saving for the hotel without affecting the quality, just by using the proper tools and adjusting the machines the way it should be.
